The George Hintlesham

There has been a George pub on this site in Hintlesham for hundreds of years.  This was formally a thatched roof pub that used to face the old Forge next door.

 

 

The picture on the right was taken in the late 19th century.

 

From the outside the George has not changed much in over 100 years.

 

A little extension here and there, until Brent Walker purchased the George in the 1980's.   They made the bar open plan, knocking three rooms into one extending to the right hand side with a large restaurant, the left hand side with a floor level cellar (filling in the old below ground cellar with the rubble from the build), and rear centre with internal toilets and a full commercial kichen.

We took over in January 2004 and after many long discussions with Punch Taverns (Property owners), we refurbished the whole building internally, together with a new enterance to the front right, with sloped access.

 

The Bar was exended into the restaurant, mainly for party nights, but has proved valuable for both customers and staff.

 

The Restaurant is now entirely on one level, laid with real wood flooring.  This gives added flexabillity for not only accessabilty but also larger parties.

 

We decided to replace the dated bar furniture with modern leather sofas, still keeping the Pool Table, Dart Board and bar stools.  These all prove to be both comfortable for drinkers and an added benefit to restaurant customers.
